Intelligent Life Above Gdansk?
This weekend, citizens and visitors to Gdansk experienced a bit of the paranormal as a "UFO" swooped through the city's skies. The "unidentified flying object" actually turned out to be an "unidentified artistic object" - which would later be identified as the creation of New York artist Peter Coffin and London-based group Cinimod, created for the Gdansk Festival of Stars.
Coming up from the sea, the glowing saucer hovered over the port city, emitting geometric patterns of light for several minutes before floating away. The lighting effects were presented courtesy of Cinimod, which installed 3,000 bright and individually controlled LED nodes, controlled remotely by computer. Meanwhile, the movement of the 7 metre wide flying object was completely controlled by SMS messaging - now that's what we call sending a message to another world!
