Gdynia Is Happiest City In Poland

A far-reaching poll that surveyed some 16,000 people across 32 large towns and cities suggests that Gdynia is the happiest place in Poland.

The poll, which was conducted by PBS DGA, reveals that over ninety percent of the inhabitants of Gdynia were satisfied with life in their city. Of all the destinations surveyed, the central city of Radom came out the worst.

Gdynia, the least hyped member of the tri-city conurbation that includes Gdansk and Sopot, has had a dramatic history. Built from scratch in the twenties by the Poles - who lacked their own port on the Baltic - the city weas later a crucible of anti-communist protest in the seventies.

Curiously enough, Bond villain Ernst Blofeld - he of the bald head and Persian cat - was born in Gdynia of a (fictitious) Polish father and Greek mother.
