Solidarity for the Future!

A scientific conference "Solidarity For Future" attended by historian, sociologists and former dissidents from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Ukraine, Hungary and Germany will start in Gdansk on Monday. The detailed programme of the two-day seminar organised by the National Remembrance Institute IPN as part of ceremonies marking the 25th anniversary of the formation of the Solidarity trade union was presented at a news conference in Gdansk on Tuesday. "The conference aims at instilling in the minds of western Europeans the fact that events in Poland in 1980 largely contributed to the fall of communism, head of the IPN's district public education office Janusz Marszalec said. The conference envisages three debates: first, to present the Solidarity trade union as a social, national and revolution-oriented movement, second, to show its place in the world's history and third, to promote its message. Two first session will take place on Monday and the third on Tuesday. The most interesting will probably be the third session "Message of "Solidarity" as it will be attended by Jan Charnogursky from Slovakia, Mykhailo Horyn from Ukraine, Geza Jeshenshky from Hungary, Petr Pospykhal from the Czech Republic, Wolfgang Templin and Bernhard Vogel from Germany. Poland will be represented by Lech Walesa.
