Under the bright yellow inflatable Fiat arch, they gathered, ready for the start of an incredible race. Today, the Tour de Pologne kicks off on Dlugi Targ and the crowds were out to support their favorite cyclists.
There was a carnival atmospere as the racers gathered at the start line, while a man with a megaphone announced names, teams, and corporate sponsers. A number of balloons had been handed out and many people poked their heads out of their Dlugi Street apartments, eager to see what all the commotion was about. Part of the carnival atmospere can be contributed to the cycling uniforms which do resemble clown suits, but once the competition begins, the smiles will be put aside and the grimaces brought on by physical exertion will be the dominant expression.
The race will stretch across all Poland, with the cyclists covering over 1,300 kilometers, from the flats of central Poland to the Southern Mountain ranges. Whether it's red bull or pure heart that takes these fighters past the finish line, their endurance and strengh is unparalled in sport.
