Walesa Hits Hard

The worldwide symbol of Solidarity, Lech Walesa, has spent the last view days across the pond, meeting with top American officals and public figures. Reflecting on 25 years of Solidarity, Walesa was in New York on Tuesday, answering questions on anything from the EU constitution to Gorbachev's failed economic reforms.

However, he was most adamant about the actions of the United States on the international stage. Walesa described how people all over the world throw rocks at policemen. The leadership needed by the world was instead a government that will provide a vision. "The form of leadership the U.S. is now giving, policing the world, is not a form of leadership that is helpful," he said.

Walesa went on to suggest that it was a simple issue of providing a counter to US hegemony. During Soviet times there was a second super power to check the US, wheras now there is nothing. Since other nation-states would be unable to fill such a role, Walesa advocated a world government.

Walesa did bring one super power down to its knees. Perhaps the US should do more to be on his good side!
