Sushi History!

Since it's an island, Japan has long looked to the oceans for its food supply. Fish, crustaceans, and the plant life found in the sea, have all made their way to Japanese dinner tables! Since the soil in Japan isn't always ideal for farming crops like wheat or corn, rice has become a staple of the japanese diet. Sushi is merely a combination of rice, seafood, and some spices for extra flavor. Although sushi has been traced back over 1300 years, the most popular variety today, is still Nigiri Sushi, which contains a small piece of raw fish wrapped within a bed of rice.

How to Eat Sushi?

Sushi can be eaten with both your hands, or, if you're feeling adventurous, the more traditional chopsticks. Both ways are acceptable!

To eat sushi with your fingers, simply roll the piece of sushi onto its side so that you can grab the wrapping. Don't touch the rice! Use your thumb, pointer, and middle finger to do this. Next, put a subtle amount of ginger on top of the rice. Then, dip the tip of the sushi into the small bowl of Soy sauce. Finally, insert the sushi into an eager mouth, whether it be yours or a date's!

Eating sushi with chopsticks is a little more complex. To begin, separate the chopsticks, which come fused together. Take one of the sticks and place it between your pointer finger and your thumb, with the middle of the stick resting between your ring and pinky finger. Grip that stick with the base of your thumb. Then, take the second stick and hold it in the same hand, just as you would normally hold a pencil or pen. Once you've got a firm hold of the sushi, apply the ginger and soy sauce and then enjoy!
